New data from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) Violence Observatory indicates that violence against women remains a critical issue in the country. The majority of recorded homicides are perpetrated by individuals known to the victims, including current or former partners and family members. The observatory’s records highlight a concerning pattern of impunity surrounding these crimes. The highest concentrations of these violent incidents are occurring in the Distrito Central and San Pedro Sula areas. These findings underscore the ongoing challenges Honduras faces in protecting women and addressing gender-based violence. The data suggests a systemic failure to provide safety and justice for female victims. Further investigation and preventative measures are needed to address this persistent problem.
