A group of homeless individuals residing in an abandoned garage in Plzeň, Czech Republic, illegally connected to a nearby streetlight to obtain electricity. The group, described colloquially as “Koumáci” (roughly translated as resourceful or cunning individuals), ran a cable from the streetlight to their shelter in Velenická Street. They attempted to conceal the cable by covering it with gravel and dried grass. This unauthorized connection provided them with power for their makeshift living space. Authorities were alerted to the situation and are likely to investigate the illegal power tap. The incident highlights the challenges faced by homeless populations and the lengths to which they may go to secure basic necessities. The garage had been previously cleared out, indicating a pattern of temporary shelter use.
