Ho Chi Minh City is investing over 5.1 trillion dong (approximately $210 million USD) to address chronic flooding in the Thủ Đức district. The project focuses on the rehabilitation of nearly 3 kilometers of the Thủ Đức canal, a significant source of the area’s flooding issues. A key component includes increasing the pumping station capacity by over 16 times its current level to more effectively manage water runoff. The plan also incorporates the construction of roads alongside the canal, improving accessibility and supporting drainage efforts. These improvements aim to alleviate the persistent “rốn ngập” (flooding hotspots) in Thủ Đức and enhance the overall urban infrastructure. The project represents a major commitment to improving quality of life for residents affected by recurring floods. Completion is expected to significantly reduce the impact of heavy rainfall in the district.
