A new report reveals that highly skilled jobs comprise only 5% of employment in the San Salvador metropolitan area. Despite overall professional advancements, the majority of positions available do not require advanced education or specialized training. The study indicates a significant skills gap within the city’s workforce. However, certain professions are experiencing growth, notably general medicine, graphic design, and secondary school teaching between 2018 and 2025. This limited availability of skilled positions presents a challenge for economic development and workforce alignment. The findings highlight the need for initiatives focused on bridging the skills gap and fostering opportunities for higher-level employment in the region. Further analysis is required to understand the factors contributing to this imbalance.
