Archaeologists have uncovered a sophisticated drainage system beneath Veveří Castle, a landmark overlooking the Brno Reservoir in the Czech Republic. The discovery was made during excavations in the area encompassing the castle’s south gate and the Greenhouse Terrace. Initial findings revealed a vaulted ceiling concealing a long-forgotten corridor containing channels designed to divert rainwater. This system suggests a previously unknown level of engineering and infrastructure within the castle complex. Researchers believe the drainage system was crucial for preserving the structural integrity of this section of the castle. The find provides new insights into the castle’s historical construction and maintenance. Further investigation is planned to fully map and understand the extent of the drainage network.
