A demolition drive by the Roads and Highways Department in Dhaka’s Dhamrai upazila was halted Tuesday after hawkers attacked the crew. The incident occurred at Dhulivita, along the Dhaka-Aricha highway, as authorities were removing illegally constructed shops occupying the footpath. Two individuals – bulldozer operator Monir Hossain and his assistant Abbas Hossain – sustained injuries during the assault. The Roads and Highways Department initiated the eviction to clear illegally occupied spaces. Following the attack, the demolition operation was suspended. Authorities have not yet announced plans to resume the drive or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
