Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi has appealed a decision to send him to trial on rape charges. The appeal was lodged with France’s Court of Cassation, the country’s highest judicial body. This follows a ruling by the Versailles Court of Appeals which confirmed the earlier decision to refer Hakimi to a criminal court. The charges stem from an alleged incident involving a woman in 2023. Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the Moroccan national team, maintains his innocence. The Court of Cassation will now review the legal basis of the decision to proceed with the trial. A date for the court’s decision has not yet been announced.
