Haiti’s national football team has been instructed by FIFA to modify their World Cup jerseys just before the tournament begins. The original design featured an image depicting victorious Haitian rebels from the Battle of Vertières, a pivotal moment in the nation’s 1803 independence from France. FIFA prohibited the imagery, citing rules against political statements on team uniforms. The depiction was located on the lower portion of the jerseys. As a result, Haiti’s kit supplier is now urgently manufacturing a revised design. The decision has been described as a misunderstanding by Haitian officials, but FIFA maintains its stance on neutrality in sporting events. The team will now compete with newly produced, compliant jerseys.
