A Hungarian guinea pig rescue organization, the Hungarian Guinea Pig Protection Public Benefit Association, has filed a lawsuit against foundations linked to the governing Fidesz party. The lawsuit stems from the Bethlen Gábor Asset Management Foundation’s partial refusal to respond to a public interest data request. The association sought information regarding who received public funds and for what purposes. Unable to obtain the requested data, the guinea pig rescue group, with assistance from the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union (TASZ), pursued legal action. The case centers on concerns about transparency in the allocation of public money through these foundations. The group aims to compel the foundation to release the requested information, promoting greater accountability in public spending. This legal challenge highlights ongoing efforts to increase transparency within Hungary’s foundation system.
