Guatemalan police and military personnel have destroyed a significant coca plantation in the Petén region. The operation, conducted in a forested area near El Chal, targeted 128,000 coca plants. Authorities estimate the eradicated plantation had a value of approximately Q3.2 million (roughly $250,000 USD). The plants were both uprooted and subsequently burned, effectively eliminating the illicit crop. This operation represents a continued effort by Guatemalan security forces to combat drug trafficking. No arrests were reported in connection with the plantation’s destruction. The area is known for illegal activity related to drug production and trafficking routes.
