Guatemala’s Ministry of Health has filed a new complaint regarding the purchase of the antiviral drug Remdesivir. The official investigation centers on sales totaling approximately Q147.578.000 (Guatemalan Quetzales) in 2020 and 2021. Concerns stem from a 2022 alert issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the drug. The investigation also reveals evidence suggesting potential smuggling and tampering with the medication. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the procurement process and the quality of the Remdesivir acquired during the pandemic. The Ministry aims to determine if irregularities occurred and hold those responsible accountable for any wrongdoing related to these substantial purchases. This new complaint builds upon previous investigations into the matter.
