Greece’s Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEΝ) will fund ten projects totaling €15 million to address water scarcity issues across nine island municipalities and one mainland location. The initiative aims to bolster water resource management in regions frequently impacted by drought. Beneficiary locations include the islands of Naxos, Amorgos, Astypalaia, Rhodes, Leros, Skopelos, Alonissos, Zakynthos, and the municipality of Viannos in Crete. The projects will focus on improving water infrastructure and increasing resilience to water shortages. Funding will be allocated to enhance existing systems and explore sustainable water solutions for these vulnerable areas. The initiative reflects a growing concern over the impact of climate change on water availability in Greece. These investments are intended to safeguard water supplies for both residents and tourism.
