Greece’s Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou, announced a significant reduction in the number of children residing in Child Protection Units. The number has decreased from approximately 2,200 in 2020 to just 965 currently. This represents a drop of over 50% since 2019, signaling substantial progress in the country's child welfare system. Michailidou highlighted this achievement as a key indicator of successful policies focused on strengthening family support networks and preventative measures. The decline suggests a shift away from institutional care towards alternative care arrangements, prioritizing family-based solutions for children in need. This positive trend reflects ongoing efforts to improve the well-being of vulnerable children across Greece. The Minister emphasized the continued commitment to further reducing this number and ensuring comprehensive support for all children.
