Greece is grappling with escalating wildfires across the country, resulting in widespread devastation and tragically, the deaths of three firefighters. Approximately 12,000 hectares of forest and agricultural land have been destroyed, an area more than twice the size of the Hoge Veluwe National Park. Strong winds, reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour, are fueling the rapid spread of the flames and hindering firefighting efforts, even grounding aircraft at times. A major blaze near Porto Germeno is spreading rapidly towards Athens, damaging or destroying dozens of homes and forcing emergency services to focus on protecting the city's outskirts.
