Latvian Television reports a substantial increase in grain transit traffic through Latvia originating from Russia and Belarus. Between September 1st and 24th, over 253,000 tonnes of grain were shipped in transit from Russia via Latvia. Additionally, more than 40,000 tonnes of grain originated from Belarus and transited through Latvian territory during the same period. This surge in grain movement raises questions regarding trade routes and potential economic implications for Latvia. The data indicates a considerable volume of agricultural products is currently utilizing Latvia as a transit corridor. Further investigation may be needed to understand the final destinations of this grain and the reasons behind the increased transit figures. The Latvian government has not yet commented on the reported increase.
