Dutch police have arrested six individuals in Gorinchem as part of an investigation into alleged vote fraud during the recent municipal council elections. The suspects, ranging in age from 20 to 65, are accused of forgery and soliciting votes through coercion. The investigation began after the mayor of Gorinchem filed a report in March, citing concerns about pressure being placed on residents to grant power of attorney for voting purposes. It is illegal to offer to vote on behalf of others; the request must originate with the voter. Following the initial concerns, the Gorinchem council opted to hold new elections in April, which yielded similar results with the Democrats Gorinchem party winning again. The Public Prosecutor's Office states the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are possible, emphasizing the need to allow due process to unfold.
