Newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly were sworn in on Monday by outgoing Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate. A total of 30 members took the oath, including 21 general seat lawmakers, six women, and three technocrats. The first session of the sixth assembly convened in Gilgit, though results for three general constituencies remain pending due to legal proceedings. Following the June 7 elections, the PPP secured 13 seats, followed by the PML-N with nine and the IPP with six. The PML-N and IPP have agreed to support the PPP in the elections for key leadership positions. Consequently, the PPP is set to form a government with the support of the PML-N. Advocate Amjad Hussain is expected to be elected chief minister, while Imran Nadeem and Malik Kifayat are slated for speaker and deputy speaker roles.
