Kunlog, a historically significant community in Ghana’s Savannah Region, is considered the second-oldest settlement of the Vagla people following their migration from Sissala Land. The community’s traditional structure centers around the Kunlog Heuhin, the supreme traditional ruler whose authority is unchallenged and who oversees all shrines and deities. This ruler, also known as Siayo, performs key rites related to the Earth Deity and serves as the origin of other important spiritual entities within the Vagla tradition. While originally holding all spiritual power, the Kunlog Heuhin has delegated some responsibilities to other community elders over time to manage various areas. The community’s history reflects a southward migration pattern, establishing Dagbigu and Beel as further chiefdoms. Kunlog’s enduring traditions highlight the importance of land pacification and the custodianship of ancestral heritage within the Vagla culture.
