Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has highlighted a critical weakness in the nation’s power infrastructure: insufficient redundancy in power generation. This lack of backup capacity, according to the Minister, is hindering Ghana’s ability to maintain a consistently reliable electricity supply for its citizens and industries. Jinapor stated that the Ministry and related agencies are actively focused on bringing idle power plants operated by the Volta River Authority (VRA) back online. Addressing this redundancy gap is considered crucial to bolstering the stability of Ghana’s energy sector. The Minister’s comments underscore the challenges facing Ghana in meeting growing electricity demands and ensuring consistent power access across the country. Restoring existing infrastructure is a key element of the plan to improve the country’s energy resilience.
