Ghanaian sugarcane farmers have called off a planned demonstration targeting the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry. The Sugarcane Farmers Association of Ghana (SUFAG) suspended the protest, originally scheduled for June 16th, 2026, following assurances of government attention. However, the farmers have issued a firm deadline of July for concrete action regarding the Komenda Sugar Factory. They are seeking government intervention to revitalize the factory and address challenges facing the sugarcane industry. SUFAG members express concerns about the factory’s operational status and its impact on their livelihoods. The association stated they will resume protest plans if their demands are not met by the July deadline. The farmers are hoping for a swift resolution to ensure the sustainability of sugarcane farming in Ghana.
