Ghana’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister, Emelia Arthur, has ordered local government chiefs to enforce approved pricing for premix fuel sold to fishermen. This directive stems from reports of Landing Beach Committees overcharging for the subsidized fuel. The National Premix Fuel Secretariat received complaints that committees were exceeding the government-set price, impacting fisherfolk. MMDCEs are now tasked with ensuring committees adhere to the regulations and preventing price gouging. This action aims to support the fishing community by guaranteeing access to affordable fuel. Failure to comply may result in consequences for the committees involved and underlines the government’s commitment to fair pricing in the fisheries sector.
