The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has cautioned against the increasing danger of misinformation and disinformation circulating within the country. Bernard Otabil, the BoG’s Communications Director, stated that false information poses a significant risk to Ghana’s economic stability, national security, and social harmony. Otabil issued this warning during the launch of the BoG’s nationwide Media Capacity Building Programme, emphasizing the need for accurate reporting. The program aims to equip journalists with the skills to combat the spread of false narratives. He highlighted that markets are particularly sensitive to information, both accurate and inaccurate, and can react strongly to unsubstantiated claims. The BoG believes a well-informed media is crucial in safeguarding the nation’s economic and social well-being. The initiative underscores the central bank’s commitment to fostering a responsible information ecosystem.
