Ghana has launched the National Shea Commodity Platform (NSCP) to drive commercialization and sustainable development within its shea industry. The initiative marks a shift from wild harvesting to organized cultivation of shea, a key agricultural product for the nation. The NSCP will coordinate efforts among government bodies, research institutions, private companies, development organizations, and shea producer groups. This collaborative approach aims to improve livelihoods, particularly for the women who comprise a significant portion of the shea workforce. By fostering coordination, the platform seeks to unlock the full potential of Ghana’s shea value chain. The NSCP represents a strategic investment in a sector vital to the country’s economic growth and rural development.
