Forty-two Palestinians from Gaza arrived at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after receiving assistance from the Dutch government, following months of uncertainty. The group comprises three workers, 21 students, and 18 accompanying family members. They had previously obtained Dutch visas for work or study but faced significant obstacles in leaving Gaza, with the initial Dutch position being that it was not responsible for facilitating their travel beyond requesting permission from Israeli authorities. A policy shift occurred after pressure from universities expecting the students and ongoing legal challenges regarding the government’s responsibility. The Netherlands then began actively assisting with their departure, collaborating with other nations and aid organizations. The journey involved travel through Israel and Jordan, where the travelers collected necessary documentation, before finally arriving in the Netherlands, marked by emotional reunions and concern for family remaining in Gaza.
