A large-scale reconstruction plan for Gaza, initially proposed under former US President Trump’s Board of Peace (BoP), has been drastically reduced to a small pilot project in the south of the territory. The BoP, established in January, aimed to oversee the rebuilding of Gaza following a ceasefire, with the US acting as its depository. Originally authorized by a UN Security Council resolution to establish an international stabilisation force, the plan now focuses on building a temporary camp for a limited number of Gazans, complete with a Palestinian administration and security. Construction of the camp near Rafah is delayed, with no new structures visible despite some ground preparation. Progress is further stalled by upcoming Israeli elections that could lead to a government change. The Board is reportedly adapting to limited circumstances, with preparatory steps like establishing a logistics base and deploying initial security personnel from Morocco and Kosovo.
