The Chókwè Polytechnic Institute (ISPG) in Gaza province continues to suffer significant losses following recent floods. A key submersible pump, capable of moving 900 cubic meters of water per hour, is out of service after being submerged, severely impacting the institute’s agricultural production and practical student training. Projected agricultural land use has dropped by over 70%, from 60 hectares to just 18 hectares. The damaged pump, essential for irrigation during power outages, has led to longer irrigation intervals and reduced productivity. Additionally, floodwaters destroyed 12 fish-fattening tanks, impacting aquaculture efforts. The damage also hinders practical learning for students in agricultural and hydraulic engineering programs, as the fields serve as outdoor classrooms. The full financial extent of the damage remains unknown, and recovery efforts are ongoing.
