Israeli airstrikes in southern and central Gaza on Monday resulted in at least eight fatalities, including two children, and left over 20 individuals wounded, according to local health officials. Three people were killed at a shelter near Deir Balah, sheltering displaced Palestinians, including an eight-year-old boy and his grandfather. The Israeli military stated the strikes targeted Zakhir Abu Salim, a member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, alleging his involvement in the October 7th attack on Israel. These strikes are occurring despite a ceasefire agreement brokered last October. Both Israel and Hamas routinely accuse each other of violating the terms of the ceasefire. The continued violence raises concerns about the fragility of the existing truce and the safety of civilians in Gaza.
