New satellite images on Google Maps demonstrate the extensive destruction in Gaza following the conflict that began after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Once visible roads are now piles of rubble, and homes and agricultural land are largely unrecognizable. Recent images, dated February 25, 2024, focus on areas in the south of Gaza, including Rafah, a city bordering Egypt, which became a refuge for displaced Palestinians before also becoming a target of Israeli military operations in May 2024. The Taiba-mosque in Rafah’s Tal as-Sultan neighborhood shows clear damage from Israeli airstrikes. Furthermore, farmland near Khan Younis has been converted into a refugee camp, and the destruction continued even after the ceasefire. United Nations data indicates a significant amount of buildings have been damaged or destroyed.
