The Gambia has officially launched its first unified National Identity Management System (GAM ID), marking a significant step in the nation’s digital transformation. This achievement is the result of a landmark Public-Private Partnership between The Gambia and Ghana’s Margins ID Group, demonstrating a growing trend of African solutions for African challenges. President Barrow was the first recipient of the GAM ID. The project showcases the increasing capability of indigenous African technology firms to deliver sophisticated digital infrastructure, traditionally provided by foreign companies. This initiative positions The Gambia alongside other African nations embracing Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The successful launch highlights the power of intra-Africa collaboration and technological advancement. It signals a shift towards self-reliance and innovation in the digital space across the continent.
