Wildfires are raging across southern France, particularly in the Pyrénées-Orientales region, having already burned through 4,600 hectares of land. Due to the escalating situation, authorities have banned spectators from attending today’s Tour de France stage on the French side. The fires are also impacting the Gard, Drôme, Aude, and Ariège departments. Météo-France has issued “very high risk” alerts for seven departments, signaling potentially dangerous conditions. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez is scheduled to visit the Pyrénées-Orientales this afternoon to assess the situation. The rapidly spreading fires are prompting concerns for both public safety and the iconic cycling event.
