France’s Interior Minister, Laurent Nuñez, has warned CNews of potential criminal sanctions if Xenia Fedorova, a Russian propagandist, is allowed to reappear on the channel. In a letter to Martin Ajdari, President of the French Authority for the Regulation of Communication Audiovisual and Digital, Nuñez accuses CNews – part of the Bolloré Group – of attempting to circumvent measures taken by the Interior Ministry (“Place Beauvau”). The minister alleges that the channel is actively facilitating Russian interference. This action follows concerns about the spread of disinformation and Russian propaganda through French media outlets. Nuñez’s warning underscores the government's determination to counter perceived Russian influence and uphold media regulations. The letter signals a potential escalation in the ongoing scrutiny of CNews’ editorial line and its adherence to established broadcasting laws in France.
