The child was playing with a Cool Mix Supergel-branded toy purchased at a Smyths Toys store when the incident occurred. His mother reported the injury, describing panic and skin coming off with the escaping gel. This incident follows previous concerns raised in Belgium regarding similar "squishy dumplings" containing potentially carcinogenic substances like xylene and benzene derivatives. These substances are released when the toy is warmed. Despite earlier concerns and a halt in sales by some retailers, the Cool Mix Supergel squishy remains available on the Smyths Toys website. The investigation will determine if the injury was due to negligence or a product defect.
