Police in Aalsmeer, Netherlands, arrested four men early this morning following a break-in at the local fire station. The arrests occurred after a pursuit that began when the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, eventually leading to Amsterdam-West where two attempted to evade capture by entering the water. The quick response was attributed to numerous calls from alert residents who reported suspicious activity, following a recent police appeal. It remains unclear if any items were stolen from the station, however, fire departments are increasingly concerned about a recent surge in burglaries targeting fire stations – with 47 reported this year. The targeted items are typically spreaders and shears, tools used for forced entry, potentially for resale or use in further crimes. Authorities condemn the thefts, highlighting the impact on emergency services' ability to respond to incidents.
