Police in the Netherlands have arrested four men suspected of threatening the life of Breda’s mayor, Paul Depla. The arrests stem from a photo found on a NAC Breda supporter’s phone, linking the men to a banner displayed during a match on March 8th reading "Depla Dood" (Depla Dead). An initial investigation two months ago stalled due to lack of evidence against previously identified suspects. However, recent arrests following riots near a NAC-Heerenveen match led to the discovery of the key photograph. The suspects, aged 16, 24, 32, and 34, are from Breda and Oosterhout. Authorities emphasize that threats against public officials are a serious crime, carrying a potential four-year prison sentence, and undermine democratic institutions. The motive appears linked to a dispute over a pre-match gathering and a municipal warning regarding potential unrest.
