Lutfur Bhuiya Kamal, also known as Hamid Lutfur Bhuiya Kamal, the brother-in-law of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Shamim Mia in the Bhatara area during the July protests. Kamal, a former chairman of Burura Upazila in Cumilla, was arrested after appearing in court for bail in two other cases. The arrest followed an application by the investigating officer. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam ordered his arrest in the Bhatara case on Wednesday, September 30th. During the hearing, Kamal reportedly admitted to prior involvement with Chhatra Shibir, a student organization. Further details of the case are pending investigation.
