Prosecutors are seeking a 12-month prison sentence, with four months suspended, for the former mayor of Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, a 77-year-old man accused of indecent acts with an adult and possessing and distributing child abuse imagery. The arrest occurred in February following the discovery of sexually explicit chat logs detailing disturbing fantasies involving children. The former mayor admitted to possessing the material, claiming he received it from others and lacked computer skills, a claim the prosecution deems “totally unbelievable.” Authorities discovered 1036 illicit files across seven devices, hidden in folders disguised as tax documents. The man also faces accusations of inappropriate touching reported by a male complainant. Despite claiming he only briefly viewed the initial file and sought to understand the “world” behind certain search terms, investigators found concerning searches saved on his phone. The court expressed skepticism regarding his explanations.
