Uvs province has imposed restrictions on public gatherings until August 1, 2026, as a preventative measure against a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak. The restrictions follow confirmed cases of the SAT-1 strain of FMD in the neighboring provinces of Khovd, Bayan-Ulgii, and Govi-Altai. Affected events include traditional festivals like Ovoo and Urgen, Naadam celebrations, horse racing, and other large public events. Livestock movement between provinces has also been indefinitely restricted to curb potential spread. Travel to Khovd province is permitted with prior authorization from local authorities, while travel to Bayan-Ulgii province is currently prohibited. Authorities are urging citizens and herders to cooperate with the restrictions and prioritize livestock health to minimize the risk of further infection. These measures aim to protect animal populations and prevent a wider epidemic.
