A recent report from Statistics Norway (SSB) reveals a continuing decline in tooth decay among young people. The study found that 34% of 18-year-olds examined in the last year had never experienced cavities. This marks a significant improvement in dental health over the past four decades, attributed primarily to the introduction of fluoride in toothpaste and improved oral hygiene practices like regular brushing. Regional variations exist, with Innlandet and Oslo reporting the highest percentages of cavity-free 18-year-olds (39% and 37% respectively), while Finnmark and Møre og Romsdal had the lowest (around 28%). Akershus youth reported the fewest teeth with cavities, averaging just 2.3 per individual. The data underscores the positive impact of preventative dental care on the oral health of Norway’s younger generation.
