Residents of Chilembene, Mozambique, intercepted a truck carrying 175 bags of fertilizer allegedly stolen from warehouses in Chibuto district. This incident marks the fourth reported case of agricultural input diversion in less than two months, all involving supplies intended for victims of recent flooding. The truck was discovered attempting to unload the fertilizer at an alleged illegal warehouse in Chiduachine. Authorities suspect the fertilizer originated from Chibuto’s flood relief stores, with a possibility of some being illegally purchased from local farmers in Macavelane. The thefts are occurring while thousands of farmers struggle to recover from flood-related losses and rely on distributed agricultural supplies. Police are investigating the origin of the cargo and identifying those responsible, with an official statement expected Monday.
