A ferry carrying 69 people experienced engine failure and drifted without steering in the North Sea approximately five kilometers east of the German island of Helgoland. The incident occurred on Tuesday while the vessel, named Funny Girl, was en route from Büsum to Helgoland. After nearly two hours adrift, a distress call was made at 12:45 PM, prompting a rescue operation. Despite challenging weather conditions – including winds of up to 7 and waves reaching three meters – the ferry was successfully towed to the port of Cuxhaven, arriving around 10:15 PM. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew. This is not the first time the Funny Girl has suffered engine trouble in the North Sea; a similar incident occurred earlier in 2024. Helgoland, a popular tourist destination, is located approximately 60 kilometers off the German coast.
