Austrian far-right activist Martin Sellner is initiating a campaign across the European Union advocating for the large-scale deportation of individuals, aiming to create a “political crisis” for European leaders. Sellner intends to gather signatures for his initiative, dubbed a “remigration” campaign, which echoes previous calls for millions to leave Europe. The campaign is receiving support from figures within the White House, according to reports. Similar proposals have faced legal challenges in Germany, where courts have examined the specifics of such demands. A member of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), Harald Fürst, is actively promoting Sellner’s campaign. The initiative’s core tenet revolves around the controversial idea of incentivizing or forcing individuals to leave the continent, raising concerns about its legality and ethical implications. The campaign seeks to capitalize on existing anti-immigration sentiment within the EU.
