American oil company ExxonMobil has announced it will move forward with its final investment decision (FID) for the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique this year. The company confirmed its commitment during a recent briefing in Maputo. This signals a significant step towards developing Mozambique's vast natural gas reserves. The project, located off the coast of Cabo Delgado province, has faced delays due to security concerns and logistical challenges. ExxonMobil’s decision provides a boost to Mozambique’s economy, promising job creation and revenue generation. The FID will unlock substantial investment and allow construction to begin, potentially positioning Mozambique as a major LNG exporter. This development also strengthens international confidence in Mozambique’s energy sector.
