An explosion occurred last night around 11:00 PM at a hair salon in Vlaardingen, causing damage to the facade and completely blowing out a shop window. The cause of the explosion has not been disclosed, but images from the scene show heavy fireworks and a loose brick. This incident is not isolated; similar incidents around hair salons have been reported in Vlaardingen previously. Last summer, Rijnmond and the AD reported on a so-called ‘hairdresser war’ in the Zuid-Hollandse gemeente. The hair salon on Westhavenkade had also been previously targeted with vandalism, with bricks thrown at the shop window. The motive behind these attacks remains unclear, but speculation suggests it may involve unfair competition. The targeted hairdressers are said to offer haircuts at prices below the usual rates.
