Former Layang-Layang parliamentary representative Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim has resigned from the United Malays National Organisation (Umno). His departure follows the decision to allocate the Layang-Layang seat to the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a component party within the ruling coalition. Abd Mutalip has subsequently joined Bersatu, a party aligned with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) opposition coalition. He intends to contest the Layang-Layang seat under the PN banner in the upcoming election. This move represents a shift in political allegiance and potentially alters the dynamics of the electoral contest in the constituency. The defection highlights ongoing tensions within the ruling coalition regarding seat distribution and candidate selection. Abd Mutalip’s decision is likely to intensify competition for the Layang-Layang seat.
