A tribunal has granted permission to question two former top police officials – ex-Inspector General of Police Shahidul Haq and former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia – regarding the alleged staged gunfight death of student leader Md. Nuruzzaman Joni. Joni, a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing, was killed in what authorities initially described as a shootout. Prosecutors have argued the incident was deliberately fabricated. The tribunal set June 26th as the date for submitting the investigation report. This development follows a prosecution application seeking permission for the questioning of the former police heads. The case centers on accusations of a pre-planned operation disguised as a gunfight, raising serious concerns about extrajudicial killings and police misconduct.
