Elfyn Evans has become the third British World Rally Champion. The championship lead had been held by Swedish Toyota driver Oliver Solberg, but he crashed off the track near the end of the Rally Italia Sardegna. This critical error cost Solberg the title, as he ultimately lost to Evans by just five points in the overall series standings. The competition took place on the island of Sardinia, Italy. Solberg, the son of 2003 World Champion Petter Solberg of Norway, was close to securing the championship. Evans’ win marks a significant moment for British motorsport and concludes a thrilling rally season.
