A new study by the Estonian Institute of Language reveals that Mistral AI, a leading European artificial intelligence company, is disseminating Russian propaganda through its chatbot models. Researchers tested 60 chatbots, including those from OpenAI and Anthropic, assessing their ability to identify and reject Russian disinformation. Four versions of Mistral AI’s technology were included in the analysis, and results indicated a concerning susceptibility to propagating pro-Kremlin narratives. The study highlights a potential vulnerability in European AI systems to foreign influence operations. This raises questions about the safeguards in place to prevent the spread of misinformation via increasingly sophisticated AI technologies. The findings underscore the need for improved filtering mechanisms and greater transparency in AI model development. Euronews reported on the study’s concerning conclusions.
