Europe is experiencing an early and potentially record-breaking heatwave, comparable to those seen in 2003, 2006, 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Red alerts have been issued for significant portions of France and Spain as temperatures soar. Scientists attribute the extreme heat to climate change, stating a strong correlation between global warming and the increased frequency and intensity of heatwaves. Research indicates that while not all extreme weather is caused by global warming, it significantly exacerbates heat events. Heatwaves are now occurring more frequently – events previously expected every ten years now happen every three, and are notably hotter. France is anticipating June temperature records, with some areas reaching 41°C, leading to event cancellations and restrictions, while England also faces sustained high temperatures around 35°C.
