The European Commission has not yet made a decision regarding the exclusion of Agrofert from EU funding. Czech Agriculture Minister Martin Šebestyán, representing the SPD, views the temporary suspension of some subsidy payments as a procedural step. In September, the Commission halted the payment deadline for 3.18 million euros (roughly 77 million Czech crowns) from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) for six months. This suspension stems from the Commission’s concerns about insufficient resolution of a potential conflict of interest involving Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO). The Commission seeks further clarification on the matter before reaching a final decision concerning Agrofert’s eligibility for EU funds. This situation continues to draw scrutiny regarding transparency and accountability in the allocation of European funds within the Czech Republic.
