Ethiopia is experiencing a wine boom driven by a collaboration between French viticulturalists and local winemakers. The partnership utilizes vine seeds imported from the prestigious Bordeaux region of France, resulting in increasingly refined Ethiopian wines. Exports of these wines are steadily increasing, marking Ethiopia’s emergence on the East African viticultural scene. Simultaneously, domestic consumption of locally produced wine is also on the rise amongst Ethiopian consumers. A French-Ethiopian winery in central Ethiopia exemplifies this growing industry, showcasing the success of this unique international cooperation. This venture signals a promising future for wine production in Ethiopia and its potential to become a significant exporter. Reporter Tom Canetti visited the winery to document this evolving landscape.
